The HYSA Arsenal U12G Gold and U14B teams emerged victorious over the weekend at the annual 3 Blind Refs tournament in Kalispell, while 5 other Arsenal teams made it into the semi-finals or finished as runners-up.
The U12G Gold, led by Jamul Hahn and Lyndsey Gilstrap, defeated the Calgary Ranger (9-0) and KEYSA Fernie United (7-1) on Saturday to advance into the semi-finals. On Sunday, the girls defeated another Calgary team, Calgary SWU Menace (9-1) in the semi-finals and Lethbridge FC (4-1) in the championship game.
Diego Rivas and Scott Story's U14B Arsenal team played a round-robin format, defeating Calgary West SC Barcelona (5-0), KEYSA Rovers (3-0), and Flathead SC White (3-0). The team fell 1-0 to Polson FC in their final game, but by that time their 1st place finish had been sealed.
The U13G team led by Lance Melton and Nan Brisko was one goal from winning the ultra-competitive U13B bracket, which including defeating Idahos' Coeur d'Alene Sting 5-3 in the semi-finals before falling 1-0 to the Spokane Brekers in the championship game. Early results for the team were 11-0 and 7-1.
Cuyler Tonkovich's U15B team also finished in 2nd place, playing the same round-robin format of the U14B. A tough 3-1 defeat to the Missoula Strikers outweighed 2-1, 3-1, and 4-2 victories in the team's other games.
Other Arsenal teams to reach the semi-finals in their respective age groups were the U12B Blue, U12B Gold, and U16G.
