HYSA Academy Ages: 4th & 5th Grade Season Runs: April 18th- June 26th Cost: $125.00 per player plus travel and uniforms Why Academy Helena Youth Soccer Association (HYSA), this year will provide the academy for U10 & U11 players, as well as Arsenal and Recreation, the options in previous years. HYSA believes that forming traveling teams at these ages has lead to a focus on winning rather than a focus on developing the players. This is not in the best interest of a player’s development. HYSA believes that players could learn the fundamentals skills of soccer better at younger ages if the fundamental soccer skills are the focus, not competitive games every weekend, involving much travel. On most Saturdays, the academy would divide up teams, from full sided (8 v 8) to smaller sided depending on the skill or tactic worked on that week. Helena will host or travel within 100 miles to play teams from other academies on four weekends to get a variety of competition. All academies will adhere to development of players as the focus, with players at different positions and skillful play. Costs are reduced. Playing time that develops each player is increased.
